They were all extremely comfortable in the water with superb buoyancy. New Zealander Adam(Whales) helped out after years working for Cairn Dive Centre, the biggest PADI scuba diving school in Australia.
On the Sunday they were joined by Karl who is already a Scuba Diver but wants to complete the full Open Water course in the Red Sea. Louis completed most of the remaining skills from his Referral course with Roger while Ian, Petrea and Arne practised. Petrea completed her course with us at the weekend and took advantage of the cheap practise sessions we offer to our students. By the end of the night she was looking very comfortable under the water and I am sure whe will get complimented by the Instructor on Tioman Island in Malaysia when she completes her qualifying dives. Several years ago scuba diving was a much less popular sport. Now everybody knows somebody who has taken their PADI course, if not several people.

Most people are still tropical divers but diving in the UK is becoming more popular all the time. Drysuits are far more comfortable than they were years ago and it is easy to get used to the change in buoyancy.

UK scuba diving is quite stunning on the right day, and most weekends there is somewhere you can dive and get good visibility. We are so close to the South Coast and within an hour can be down on the coast and getting ready to get on the dive boat and head out to do what we love most. Give it a try!!

Spring

Tomorrow spring arrives. Okay so the odd snowflake has fallen today but I still think it's going to get better.

Today I went to Kingston Upon Thames to deliver some scuba diving materials for a new customer and I noticed that it's starting to be light for longer in the evenings. I've just made it back to Wimbledon and it's still light at 5.55pm. I can't help smiling!! It's amazing how the thought of summer coming can give us all such an amazing boost.

Not long to wait now!! It's amazing how many times my phone rings on these cold days. I answer it and someone is on the end asking when we'll start diving in the UK this year. Some just want to come to the pool for a play or perhaps they want to come on holiday with us to dive somewhere warm.

Even throughout the winter we go to the pool every second weekend to teach beginners, refreshers and introductory scuba diving courses. It's amazing how many people turn up just to play in the pool and become weightless again for an hour.

Then again maybe they come for the pub afterwards when we can sit beside the fire and have a beer and talk about diving. So many of the plans for the new season get decided in the pub. I guess it's the same for all businesses.

During the last 2 weeks everybody has been interested in taking Rescue courses or Divemaster courses. It makes a great start for the year as we'll be finishing the dives for the rescue early in Spring and everybody will be set up for the new seasons diving. There experience as well helps the club as the more experienced the buddies the safer the diving is for all.

Just writing about it is getting me excited to dive again.

I have tried to link this to a good little website that is in the process of being set up at the moment. They want to list all the dive sites they can. If you have a write up or want to comment on a site click on the link. It's called divereview.co.uk.

About Dive Wimbledon

Experience the amazing underwater world of scuba diving with Dive Balham, Dive Wimbledon and Dive Kingston in South West London

Dive Balham, Dive Wimbledon, Dive Putney and Dive Kingston are professional dive schools offering PADI scuba diving training courses from entrance level to Divemaster in South West London.

For non-divers looking to experience scuba diving for the first time we offer a variety of courses.
The Discover Scuba Diving Course is an introductory pool session for those who are not sure if an official course is for them.

If you are looking to become a qualified scuba diver then perhaps our Referral Course with overseas completion or full Open Water Course are what you are looking for.

For those already qualified we offer an opportunity to refresh your scuba diving skills with the Scuba Review Course, join our friendly club, or to just practise on one of our pool nights.

All our training is carried out by our experienced and well travelled instructors who are committed to ensuring your safety as well as your enjoyment.

We use several pools in Wandsworth, Kingston and Lambeth in South West London including Putney Leisure Centre and Tooting Leisure Centre.
Please call us on 02085406874 and we will be happy to help.
